SCARVILLE Iowa March 1 Fire destroyed four buildings and damaged several others in a blaze that wiped out half the town's business district near the Minnesota border. Cora Nelson a telephone operator fainted from smoke and Isabelle Cunningham seven suffered a broken ankle leaping from a second story window. Fire raged from midnight until after dawn with aid from Lake Mills Iowa Kieser Minnesota.

Frank Bruty 69 prominent farmer south of Washington died at 3 am in the county hospital from pneumonia. He will lie in state at 727 East Second Street and services are set for 9 am Saturday at St. James Catholic Church with Father Joseph H. O Donnell presiding. Burial in Elm Grove Cemetery. He was born January 19, 1865 near Richmond and survived by his widow Jennie Swift and nine Washington area children. He also leaves three sisters, three deceased siblings, and one sister in Milwaukee.

Fred Iselin Dies After Horse Kick At Manning Sale
Fred Iselin 37 a well known Manning resident died last Monday from a skull fracture after being kicked by a horse while trying to load it into a truck. His widow and one child survive. The death was reported to the Journal by Charles Brown, a longtime acquaintance. Iselin had conducted horse sales in Washington, Kalona and nearby towns for over five years.
