Tax burden grows faster than Iowa pay and population
Iowa's 1931 tax burden exceeded 157.8 million dollars, rising from 136.5 million in 1923 as taxes across state local and federal levels outpaced population growth. Automobile and gasoline taxes led the revenue gain while farm product values and assessed valuations fell, with population near 2.47 million in 1930.
