County Agent W. J. Roudabush reports slow uptake of government supplied chinch bug oil for corn barrier defense. Of 10 000 gallons, only 2000 were claimed by noon today while 243 farmers in Washington county have not yet obtained oil and 200 from other counties joined local distribution.

Flyers Escape Crash On Baltic Flight From New York to Warsaw

Benjamin and Joseph Adamowics, Brooklyn brothers, narrowly avoided disaster during takeoff at Harbor Grace Newfoundland. Funeral services for Mrs Susan Rebecca Baker Saturday

Mrs. Susan Rebecca Baker 84 died yesterday afternoon at her daughter’s home four miles southwest of West Chester. Funeral services are set for 2 30 pm Saturday at the Methodist church in West Chester with burial in West Chester cemetery. Born December 14 1848 in Winchester West Virginia she married James Wesley Baker in 1867 eloping to Cumberland Maryland. She lived in the West Chester area except for periods in West Virginia and Kansas. She joined the Methodist church at 14 and remained active despite long illness and impaired vision.

Washington Municipal Band Schedules Saturday Concert in Central Park

Rain and Storm Damage Hit Des Moines Area

A late afternoon shower cooled temperatures and eased local drought but a wind storm caused damage on the northeast edge of town. A hay barn collapsed at the Ralph Livingston place and other structures suffered damage, with trees down and windows broken. Temperatures ranged from 99 to 103 earlier, rainfall measured at .22 inches.
