A boiler explosion at Arch Stewart’s threshing engine near Keota Saturday evening damaged the mill building. Walt Stewart was hurt but not dangerously blown about 20 feet. the blast sent grate bars into a nearby can of corn. Cause cited as excessive steam pressure. engine deemed unsafe for some time.

Yesterday morning at about eleven a team frightened by a broken neck yoke bolted near the square. The driver and a bystander prevented harm to four ladies and a babe, with one woman leaping free as the buggy spun and the vehicle suffered minor damage. The team belonged to Milton Godfrey.
Foot pads attempted an ambush near the Keota brick and tile works at dusk. They stopped Joseph Smith as he rode by and then targeted his son John minutes later. Officers were warned but could not locate the assailants.

K W Sage misplaced his pocketbook Saturday evening between JT Klein's clothing store and the post office. It held a little over $2.00. Finder is asked to leave it at the JOURNAL. Rev Thorne returned home from New London after attending an old friend's funeral.
