Cowboy Held After Theft of 203000 in Miami Case
Raymond Headspeth a 37 year old Texas cowboy was arrested by FBI agents in Miami on charges of stealing 203000 from Barbara Fox Double day of Kirkwood Missouri. He spoke from a hospital bed while hospitalized for an intestinal virus and bond was set at 25000 on the theft charge and 5000 on an earlier auto theft. FBI found 186700 of the money plus a 9000 Mercedes Benz on Headspeth who had been staying at a Miami hotel since Monday.

Mrs. Virginia Whiteside, 50, a well known Keokuk musician and mother of eight, was killed instantly when her station wagon collided with a meat truck on U.S. 218 two miles north of Keokuk. The Waterloo truck driver Arnold Ray was hospitalized in fair condition.

Riverside Boy Escapes After Truck Strikes Bicycle
Harold Elder six year old son of Mr and Mrs Ted Pratt of Riverside escaped serious injury Friday afternoon when his bicycle was struck by a semi truck on highway 22 at the east edge of Riverside. He turned his bike into the truck and was found with his right hand under the wheels. Taken to Mercy Hospital Iowa City he returned home suffering only a slight concussion and minor injuries.

In Tripoli Lebanon heavy fighting between army troops and rebels using mortars and machine guns raged Friday night into Saturday. A rebel spokesman Karame reported the heaviest clashes since the revolt began seven weeks ago with five rebels killed and 20 to 30 wounded while an army officer said one soldier died and four were wounded. The fighting extended across the city and toward Cirbul with mortar emplacements spotted by rebels.

State Officials Sign Korean Bonus Bonds
Governor Herschel Loveless State Treasurer ML Abrahamson and Secretary Melvin Synhorst will travel to Chicago to sign 24 700 bonds for the Korean Veterans bonus. Equipment Returned From Cosmic Balloon
An Iowa science team recovered equipment from a 200 foot plastic balloon released to study cosmic rays at 118000 feet. Parachute- released gear landed near Ellis Kansas and was returned to Moberly Missouri. The Navy sponsored test tracked by a ground unit and plane for data on cosmic ray deviations for the International Geophysical Year. Dr Frank McDonald of the University of Iowa led the project.
