Mary Jane Le Masters admitted embezzling 500 dollars from Merchants National Bank and falsifying entries. Judge Henry N Graven gave three two year suspended sentences totaling six years, all suspended, and placed her on three years probation under Orange County probation chief Keith Concannon.
Wild fires ravaged Newfoundland for the sixteenth day with no letup. Trinity in Bonavista Bay faced destruction as residents fled by sea Monday night. A second front threatened timberlands near Gander Lake and the international airport as no rain was forecast for 24 hours.
Mrs Beverly Ann Henderson of Fort Dodge died in a local hospital after apparently taking 3000 aspirin tablets in 24 hours. A medical examiner labeled the death a self-inflicted action and an autopsy was ordered. Police found three empty 100 tablet bottles and a despondent note near her bed.
Iowa state treasury gains an additional 7,172 from FDIC after Sheldon National Bank liquidation. The 5 percent dividend on deposits over 10,000, plus prior 40 percent dividend, brings total FDIC payments for O'Brien County and Sheldon School District to over 84,500. Burnice Geiger’s embezzlement led to bank closure and liquidation.
Emma Jane Jennie McGimpsey died Monday June 26 at Washington County Hospital after eight days as a patient. She lived much of her life in Thornburg Iowa and is survived by her daughter Mrs Harold Godwin of Washington and son Art McGimpsey of Thornburg. Burial will be in Listeen Cemetery with Powell Funeral Home in charge.
The AMA House of Delegates considers approving a policy allowing physicians to work with osteopathic doctors who practice scientific care. It also weighs urging physicians to lead mass polio vaccination when oral vaccines become available, amid 102 resolutions at its 110th annual meeting with 185 000 members.
The Washington Municipal Band directed by Robert Steele performs Wednesday June 28 at 8 30 p m from Central Park band stand with patriotic numbers like God Bless America When Johnny Comes Marching Home Columbia and the Star Spangled Banner. The Senate Space Committee unanimously backed President Kennedy's plan to rush a manned moon expedition, with NASA authorized for 1.7843 billion dollars annually to develop the flight. The panel projected total five year costs of 7 to 9 billion dollars.

Funeral services for Mrs. William Panzer are set for 1 30 p.m. Thursday at Jones Funeral Home with Rev S Jay Curry officiating. Burial will follow at Keota Cemetery in Oklahoma. Mrs Panzer died Sunday in a collision at a street intersection in Midwest City Oklahoma.
Federal factfinders opened hearings in New York under Taft Hartley to study the 12 day walkout by about 75 000 seamen. The panel may report to President Kennedy who could seek a federal injunction to halt the strike for 80 days while a settlement is pursued.
Brian May an 11 year old polio victim and his mother Norma May 41 were awarded 675000 against Cutter Pharmaceutical Laboratories of Berkeley California. The jury after eight hours deliberation gave 600000 to Brian and 75000 to Norma May. Attorney Melvin Belli said 700000 would cover monthly medical needs.
Two Mason City women died when their car sideswiped a second vehicle then crashed into a semitrailer loaded with steel culverts south of Roseville Iowa 14 The victims were Rachel Irene Schrecken gast 42 and Mrs Ralph Livingston 42 Both occupants of the other car escaped injury The truck driver Ronald Lee Coleman 25 Hopkins Mo and Mrs John Swaroff of Charles City were unhurt.
In Honolulu UPI reports Health Secretary Abraham Ribicoff urged governors to back federal aid for education. He defended federal state partnership and warned education costs will double in the next decade while stressing need for more funding from federal state and local levels.
Ronald M. Stump 21 of Keokuk was bound over to the Polk County grand jury after his former girlfriend identified him as the shooter in the Daly Skultety case. Daly died from a brain wound after three close range shots. Stump awaits grand jury deliberations in Polk County jail without bond.
Kuwait joins in defense of its independence with a 3000 man army on the northern frontier amid Iraqi claims. Support pours in from London Mecca Cairo and Tehran as Kuwait's Supreme Council moves to secure borders and internal order.
In Sioux City a non union worker, Robert Lameke, said his garage was set ablaze around 2 am, causing about 275 dollars in damage. Police linked the fire to arson amid stalled negotiations between striking workers and the Sioux City dressed beef plant. The 48 day-local 721 United Packing House Union strike ended Monday with no agreement and no further talks scheduled.
United Press International reports considerable cloudiness across Iowa with scattered showers and thunderstorms tonight and Wednesday. No big temperature shift expected. lows 65 to 70, highs in the 80s. Thursday outlook calls for partly cloudy skies and slightly cooler warmth.
