Moscow dispatch says the Ministry of State Control is purging factory directors engineers and accountants nationwide. The move targets production tally fraud illegal bonuses and misappropriation with trials announced and cases spanning as far east as Tomsk Siberia.
Substantial rains and cooler weather improved Iowa crop conditions per the state crop and livestock reporting service. Oats led gains with adequate moisture, corn remains normal to better, soybeans progress well, pastures and hay boosted by moisture, and clover partly harvested with some rain damage noted especially in the southeastern counties.
Sgt Henry E Shields of the Army Air Forces was killed in a November 1944 crash in Italy. The bodies of eleven crew members were located near the wreckage in the Della Maiella mountains and reburied with full military honors at Castelloronting military cemetery after being identified.
Acreage in the region suffered destruction from hail combined with soil washing and widespread standing water and floods, causing significant poststorm losses to crops and land.

Greece submitted a reparations memorandum to the foreign ministers council seeking 240 million dollars from Italy for wartime losses. The Greeks call for payment in goods over six years and claim extensive material and occupation damages. They also seek transfer of Northern Epirus from Albania, a move Russia reportedly opposes.
Dean Kissick 21 West Branch Marine veteran died in an auto truck crash near Towal. Arthur Myer 19 Portland Ore sailor who rode with Kissick injured with a skull fracture and Don Sweeten 26 Des Moines salesman driver of the car was slightly hurt.
A large crowd attended a Methodist church service in Washington for Clyde Griggs and David J. Hotle, killed in a Wes Chester air crash. Military honors were given at Elm Grove and West Chester cemeteries with Washington Legion posts providing pallbearers and bugler.
Republican and Democratic county conventions will meet Friday at 10 am. Republicans at the courthouse and Democrats at the Knights of Columbus hall will organize the county committee after adjournment. Delegates for state, district, and judicial meetings will be chosen and officers nominated for the short term and regular term.
Mrs. David Allen of Davenport formerly Mildred Hancher has been promoted to credit sales manager at the M Parker company in Davenport. She has eleven years with the Parker store and previously served as assistant to Dean Ashby who resigned to join Brandeis in Omaha. She is daughter of Mr and Mrs Carl Hancher of Washington and previously worked as an office secretary for Elder and Shannon.
Funeral services were held in Placentia California for Mrs Lis R Morehouse a former Washington resident in her early 70s who died after a heart illness. She was born to George and Carrie Hale with her father having served as Washington mayor. She moved to California after marriage to Mr Morehouse and is survived by her husband a daughter Mrs Josephine Sprague two grandchildren Billy and Mary Jo Sprague of Palm Springs and two brothers Harry Hale of Town and Dr Nathan G Hale of Sacramento.
L. I. Norton of Eveready Plumbing and Heating Company suffered a severe cut on his right arm yesterday after contact with a scythe. The injury required four stitches and caused significant pain.

Indications grew that the Senate and President Truman would approve the modified OPA extension bill. Barkley urged swift passage, arguing failure would end price controls. The House already approved the measure, with President Truman expected to sign.
