Barry Ordered to Honor Five-Year Warriors Contract

Federal Judge Alfonso Zirpoli enjoined Rick Barry from playing for any team other than the Golden State Warriors through 1974 after he signed a five-year $1 million contract in October 1969. The order bars Barry from joining the New York Nets or any ABA club, to prevent irreparable injury to San Francisco. The Warriors, originally the San Francisco Warriors, later renamed Golden State, had sought to enforce the contract during Barry’s stints with the Oakland Oaks and Virginia Squires before moving to the Nets.
