Washington reports Secretary of State Stimson said Hoover debt suspension outline would stay but required careful study to negotiate amid many debts. Paris cabinet approves Hoover plan in principle while demanding continued Young plan unconditional annuities and parliamentary approval.
The Federal Radio Commission upheld RCA’s renewal licenses in a June 24 decision. The Dela ware court ruling on vacuum tube sales was not enough to deny renewals. Commissioners Saltzman and Sykes dissented from the majority.
Earl Quinn, a former Missouri convict, was held for district court trial in Newkirk Oklahoma on charges of murder in the slayings of Jessie and Zexia Griffith two Blackwell school teachers.
Iowa highway commission announced low bids for pavement of about 21 miles across eight counties totaling $474,575. Major project includes 7.8 miles on primary road 2 in Mahaska county linking to Osceola. Bids covered 14 counties with grading and bridge work. overall low bids totaled $1,315,995 for all announced paving.
Rome reports Italy refused to deplore anti Catholic demonstrations and to reopen Azione Cattolica youth branches. The note condemns Vatican extraterritorial actions under the Lateran Accord and calls for negotiations over the concordat article 438.
The Pennsylvania Railroad board approved a 10 percent salary reduction for executives and general officers. It also declared a quarterly dividend of 1.5 percent or 75 cents a share for holders of record August 1 1931, payable August 31 in Philadelphia.
Des Moines reports say John M. Smith, former governor candidate and wealthy insecticide maker, was found alive near Garner after months of mysterious disappearance. Authorities note a fractured skull and claim he was held by kidnappers. his wife’s insurance proceeds and a burned truck body are part of the evolving case.
New York reports a wholesale price increase from 6.40 to 6.85 per thousand for popular brands. Based on current production, the move would add about 54 million dollars annually to the income of the four principal producing companies.

Chancy Jones and Marvin Bodine of Clinton Iowa confessed to shooting Fritz Griebel DeWitt night marshal. Bodine bore a shoulder wound from the holdup and the men were jailed by Sheriff Ed Cook. Griebel hospitalized after being shot while in his car near a cemetery. robbers ordered him to surrender.
