An Air France 707 en route from Paris to Santiago, Chile crashed on a Guadeloupe mountainside during a pre-dawn storm, killing all 113 aboard. The jet struck Donkey's Back hill near Le Raizet airport, with survivors none among 103 passengers and 10 crew.

Plans for the first annual Washington Johnson county quality lamb sale are set for Tuesday June 26 at the Kalona Sale Barn. The event is sponsored by the extension service ISU and local sheep associations to provide a good market for quality lambs from small stock owners. Lambs will be received 6 30 to 9 am and the sale begins 10 30 am. Lambs must weigh 75 pounds or more and be docked castrated and not shown or blocked grade prime choice or good. Wet muddy or excessively filled lambs will be penned separately.
