President Eisenhower accepted the resignation of Army Secretary Robert T. Stevens and named Wilber M. Brucker of Michigan as successor. Brucker, 61, has been general counsel of the Defense Department since 1954 and was a former Michigan governor and attorney general. Stevens, 55, resigns for personal reasons after leading the Army department during the McCarthy hearings.

Des Moines Man Dies After Poisoning Attempt
Edwin J. Dahl a 60 year old Des Moines man died after reportedly taking a fatal amount of ant poison while attempting to poison his wife Esther 50 who survived with facial burns from the powder. The couple had a struggle in the basement at about 730 am and she fled to a neighbor after Dahl attempted to smother her with a pillow.

Howard D Snyder, 54, farmer of Richland, died Tuesday at his daughter's home in Pella after surgery in Des Moines. Funeral at 2 p.m. Friday in Richland Christian church with burial in Friends cemetery. He was born May 6, 1901 in New Haven Iowa, married Bessie Moody in 1928, moved to Richland 14 years ago. Survivors include his wife, two sons, one daughter, a granddaughter, a sister and a brother.

Dubuque Man Dies in Two Car Headon Crash
Eldon Johnson, 20, of Dubuque died after a two car headon collision on U.S. 20 west of Dubuque Monday night. Tommy Clemens, 2, of Dyersville, died later. Johnson apparently tried to pass on a slight hill and collided with a car carrying Joseph Lansing of Dyersville, Mrs. Clemens and Tommy. The others were injured but not critically.
