Wikesbarre Pa June 22 miners and operators prepare for a conciliation board session on Thursday to address grievances over strikes and working conditions. Commission grants imply miners will receive less than hoped with May at 4.52 a ton and June at 4.55, affecting pay as disputes over pay scales and practices surface.
The Lowell strike ends after a long textile workers walkout that began March 30. About 17,000 operatives were affected as mills reopened June 1, with costs near 1.3 million dollars. Agents plan to resume old help while leaders of the strike face no discrimination.
Dubuque resumed streetcar operations as four militia companies guard the property. Des Moines reports Governor Cummins ordered three more militia units to patrol the area to preserve peace amid the railway strike. Pope Vaughan news and Tangier reports follow in other items.

Names of the deceased include William Mahoney Samuel Hartup Russell Martap Bram Wilson Hayes Hutchinson and Robert Wilson. Injured listed include Richard Davis his two sons Burton Burton John Green William Nelson James Lowery John Shear and Charles Reed.
Very Rev. Herbert Vaughan cardinal and archbishop of Westminster dies after a three month illness of heart disease and dropsy. He was born in 1882 and led the English church since Cardinal Manning’s death in 1802, from a long prominent Roman Catholic legacy.
Indianapolis June 22 The thirteenth head camp of the Modern Woodmen of America installs new officers. Local camp clerks will receive five cents per member per month. Retiring Head Counsel Northcott becomes a life member at the head camp. The Foresters also disbanded.
Major James B. Pond longtime manager of lecturers and singers dies at his Jersey City home following a June 17 operation in which his right leg was removed after a month long illness. Born in 1838 at Cuba New York he endured a severe medical trial as surgeons fought to save him.
About 100 residents led by F. G. and W. H. Niedringhaus of the National Stamping Co. cut the dike protecting the Merchants' bridge approach to release backwater. Water flowed onto the terminal track, halting railroad traffic. Officials had warned with no reply, and residents say the step was needed to avert an epidemic as floodwaters receded.
Omaha dispatch reports a man condemned to death for murder raising a final appeal based on a technical point. The case centers on alleged crime in Nebraska with the sentence handed down June 22.
William Rhea alias Willian Klein of Mount Verson Indiana was sentenced to hang in Nebraska for murder.
