The Epworth League annual session ends with speakers urging church members to vote, serve, and support national duty. Rev Swartz delivers a powerful address on the cost of greatness, war, and liberty, recounting Civil War hardships and Andersonville, inspiring reflection on sacrifice.
The Nauvoo Excursion under Winfield Masonic Lodge auspices draws 68 travelers from Oskaloosa and other places to Winfield on Monday June 24 1895 with trains from Washington Havre Crawfordsville and nearby towns. Tickets are 35 cents round trip with free admission for under 12s when accompanied by parents. Orators Hon A R Dewey and Rev J G W Coxe will speak along with a rich program of music and readings. The Washington Military Band accompanies the day.
A large crowd filled the U P church to honor Rev. and Mrs. Thompson on their return to Crawfordsville. Speeches by Rev. Barker Rev. McAulay and others welcomed them, Mrs Thompson received a rocking chair from the young people, and a song titled Gathering Home closed the program. The couple will soon move into the parsonage.
On Friday July 5 the C R I & P Ry runs a special passenger train from Davenport to Denver via Kansas City, departing Davenport at 8:00 am and Washington at 10:00 am. Fare is one fare round trip plus 2.00 with literature on Colorado resorts available from Gro H Murtin or J S Nicnolls.
