New Communist Threat DMZ Shelling Reported
US dive bombers artillery and B52s attacked a new Communist threat inside and below the DMZ. GIs killed 25 guerrillas repelling a ground attack near the northern frontier. Rockets and mortars struck towns and Allied camps across South Vietnam. Two US troops were killed near Khe Sanh and 15 wounded. B52s dropped 180 tons south of the DMZ between Con Thien and Gio Linh. Helicopters and planes claimed 10 more guerrillas slain nearby. U.S. losses rose to 1,188 helicopters down with two crewmen wounded. In the Mekong Delta a bus hit a mine killing four and wounding 16.
