Mrs. Paul Jones, 32, of Gilman Iowa, died in a Marshalltown hospital after a family car rolled down a hill and struck her as she walked to the barn with her 5-year-old son. The baby girl delivered by Caesarean section died shortly after birth.
Vincent Wagner of North English Iowa was acquitted by an Iowa county district court jury in a manslaughter case stemming from a December 9 accident south of here that killed Dean Patterson and fatally injured Rita Vedrow. Wagner argued a tire blowout caused the crash while driving a group home from a dance in Victor.
Waterloo reports an accidental fall from a third story hospital window killed Klimet Thekat, 30, of Readlyn, a farm worker. He was at Allen Memorial hospital for a heart ailment and died after an autopsy showed he plunged while having a heart attack. He fell about 40 feet and struck his head.
Elfred Hoeper of Waterloo memorized a license number as three Waterloo men were arrested in Dubuque for robbing Hoeper of a $2 071 check and $9 cash. Officials say a robbery charge will be filed. money and check recovered. Hoeper, a cattle dealer, was hitchhiking home from Chicago when the trio stopped to demand money and tried to drag him from a convertible.
Gen Dwight D. Eisenhower arrived in Kansas City for a homecoming greeting from his 83 year old mother Mrs Ida Stover Eisenhower. The five star general stepped from a U S plane and exchanged a hug and kiss with his mother as family members arrived in cars. He saluted and smiled at her as she asked how he felt.
In Detroit on June 21 the General Motors Ford and Chrysler divisions protested War Production Board limits on passenger car output for the last half of 1945. They argued WPB quotas of 691 018 cars from 10 producers over nine months starting July 1 discriminate against their dealers and favor five smaller firms with an 8 000 car minimum allocation.
President Truman forecast a material improvement in the national food situation when the new food administrator takes over on July 1. He spoke in Olympia during a vacation visit hosted by Governor Mon Walligren and praised Congress for renewing the trade agreement act and lauded the progress of the San Francisco United Nations conference.
Forty four dancers and young vocalists from Zelatner Taylor and Shirley Duncan classes entertained a large State theater crowd last evening. The house was full for two shows with a home talent slow and a feature picture as part of the program. The second State presentation by Mr. Taylor drew eager audiences and did not disappoint based on last year’s positive reception.
Mrs Carl ton Smith, secretary of the Associated Country Women of the World, told Farm Bureau women the United States must be alert and informed to aid world peace. She urged American leadership and noted Japan and China near Russia as a sign of Asia's balance of power.
A Polish exile source says 12 Poles sentenced in Moscow on terrorism charges may prompt a request to Britain for help. Britain and the United States still recognize the exile government, which opposes the Soviet backed Warsaw regime.
Production in numerous regions plummeted as more than 52 000 workers in 11 cities and 39 000 in four plants walked off. In Buffalo 300 workers at Spencer Lens returned after a protest over job transfers, while 1 000 GE Bridgeport workers went back to work. Chicago Detroit and nearby areas faced severe disruptions with 16 000 truck drivers idle for six days and large numbers at McCormick International Harvester and other plants. Detroit’s 8 100 plus workers across Budd Wheel Packard Ford River Rouge and Chrysler were idle amid jurisdictional disputes.
Citizens urged to redeem pledges and purchase war bonds this week as the seventh war loan deadline nears. Despite over 13 million dollars in local bank and postal savings, county sales were weak last week, risking failure to meet quotas. Buyers are asked to visit banks or issuing agencies Friday or Saturday to improve the county's standings.

Secretary Harold L. Ickes declined to confirm or deny rumors he will leave the cabinet. At a press conference he gave a cautious remark that he "rather think we shall meet again."
Southeastern Iowa counties lag in the seventh war loan campaign with Washington in last place among 99. Jefferson county sits 72nd and Muscatine 86th while Fairfield and Muscatine papers report slow bond purchases. Muscatine County appears headed for the low tier as of the latest tally.
