Candidates in Iowa spent little money in primaries
Des Moines June 21 United Press survey shows nine of seventeen Republican and six of eight Democratic candidates reported expenditures well under legal limits. Total reported by those candidates was 1889.15 dollars with Republicans spending 1793. The lone Democratic spender of note was Max Aad with two dollars. Dickinson clinched the Republican nomination for U S Senate by a margin of 82 966 over Hammill as canvass nears completion. Turner led the Republican gubernatorial contest with 129 7 to 116 431 for Ea M. Smith. Official returns for major offices follow.

Wythal Davey, a young man, is held at Washington county jail on a forgery charge. He was arrested by Ottumwa officers on information from Sheriff Fred Sweet and brought to Washington by a U S marshal. Davey allegedly cashed a 27 dollar check at Commercial Savings bank on June 6 forged in his father Roy Davey’s name. The Bank of Winfield issued the check. Sheriff Sweet traced the clue to Ottumwa after Davey’s location shifted through Ames and other towns. Officers warn the public that bogus checks are rising and causing losses to Washington businesses.

E F Stanfield of Iowa City and J C Garrett of Winona Minn were held overnight in Washington county jail after a wreck on Road No 1 near Wead corner north of town. Eyewitnesses said the men appeared intoxicated but evidence was insufficient. they were released with their damaged car. Neither man was seriously hurt and the vehicle remained operable.

OWA Air Tour Heads Toward Fort Dodge Today
Iowa's annual air hour entered final stages with a route from Ottumwa to Fort Dodge and Mason City for an all night stop before ending in Des Moines tomorrow. Maniac Kills Family After Picnic in West Rock Park
In New Haven on June 21 Raymond Sprang killed his wife and four children during a picnic at West Rock park after his release from a sanatorium. He then leaped to his death from a cliff as police and firemen attempted a rescue. The six victims were identified as Ge crude, Helen 12 Lorain 7 Raymond 5 and Donald 3. Police recovered bodies along the rocky slope as crowds watched from the streets below.
