Ten Killed in Indiana Wreck After Disobeyed Orders
Ten people died and about forty were injured in a Chicago Lake Shore and South Bend Railroad crash in Porter County Indiana. Motorman George A Reed was killed after failing to wait for an oncoming westbound car as trains collided head on at high speed. The eastbound car telescoped, killing all aboard and injuring many passengers from South Bend and nearby towns. Rescue efforts were hampered by darkness and broken trolley wires with local residents helping until physicians arrived.
