Iowa cities could gain from matching tourism funds
A Iowa Development Commission official proposed a program to provide state matching funds for communities building and promoting attractions. The plan, possibly in the next legislative budget, would cost about 100000 annually, with the state paying about one third of development and promotion costs and five information centers set up at major highways and Des Moines airport on a trial basis. The drive aims to boost tourism spending, jobs, and tax revenues, citing 263 million spent by visitors in 1967 and a 16 million treasury contribution.
