A 401 foot bridge span under construction over Caney Fork river near Carthage Tennessee collapsed midday. Two workers Hubert Vaden 18 and William Dagerstine 35 died. six were injured and taken to Nashville. Debris trapped workers in soft cement as rescue faced slow progress.

It is estimated Leon Beatty post American Legion will clear over 2008 from the Brundage carnival after paying expenses. The carnival has been in Washington most of two weeks and moves to Ottumwa for a Saturday opening. Attendance was steady but overall business was only average this season. A good crowd gathered on the grounds last night.

Mississippi Valley group seeks 500 million for river work
Midwestern representatives meeting as the Mississippi Valley association urged Congress to approve a bond issue of at least 500 million dollars for the upper Mississippi river improvement and a nine foot channel. S. Brewer 68 Dies at Home in Washington Iowa
Funeral services for Sikke Thomas Brewer aged 68 of Washington Iowa will be held at 2 36 p m Sunday June 21 at L A Jones funeral home. Brewer died at his home 526 South Marion avenue after a long illness including diabetes. He was born February 17 1863 in Holland and came to this country settling first at Kalona then Washington. He operated a dairy in Washington for thirty years and is survived by his widow a son Jay J Brewer a daughter Mrs Ernie Temple and two more daughters with four grandchildren and several siblings. He was a longtime member of the United Presbyterian church.

Railway Officer Shoots Man In Car Gun Battle
Cedar Rapids Iowa June 19 Special Agent E W Dietz shot and killed a 38 year old barber from Hamtramck Michigan after a gun battle in Rock Island railroad yards. The confrontation began when Dietz tried to search the men in a box car and both suspects drew weapons. Dietz fired as Pulcholski fell dead and his wounded companion fled leaving a blood trail. Coroner Vorphal declared no inquest will be held.

Man Held on Liquor Charge After Car Search
