In San Gabriel California police seized 13 cartons of cigarettes from Alberta Patoux a 230 pound suspect found shopping at a market. She was arrested on shoplifting charges after the cache was discovered in her clothing.
Pollock, general manager of the National Live Stock and Meat Board, predicted beef production this year will be the greatest in history with per capita beef consumption up nine pounds. He spoke at the board’s 30th annual meeting in Chicago, attended by about 250 livestock and meat industry representatives.
Washington lawmakers cleared an $5. Lib.609 664 appropriation bill for the Veterans Administration and three other agencies. The house rejected a proposed curb on free hospital care for nonmilitary ailments, voting 394 to 2 to send the bill to the Senate. A separate 217 to 180 roll call revealed new limits that sponsors say save over 75 million dollars annually.
Iowa parks and lakes suffered minor damage from wind and rain over the past two months. The Iowa Great Lakes area led the impact with destroyed fish traps sunk barges and damaged screens. A tornado hit T. F Clark Wayside Park near Tract June 7 uprooting about 50 trees and blocking roads.

A double deck C 124 Globemaster carrying American troops bound for Korea crashed and exploded near Tokyo killing 129 people. The Air Force later revised the death toll to 120 after checking crew and passenger lists. Most victims were believed to be U S servicemen returning to Korea from rehabilitation leave in Japan. The Sth Army cancelled rest leaves following the incident.

Ivo J Berg of route Washington and Jessie B zill of Lone Tree were involved in a sideswipe at 2 15 p m Wednesday on a gravel road 11 miles north of Washington. No injuries were reported. Elliott followed another car traveling west while Berg traveled east and dust prevented sighting. Damage totaled about 76 dollars to the Elliott car and 50 dollars to Bergs vehicle. Deputy Sheriff Lloyd Robertson investigated.
