Republican Platform Adopted at Chicago Brings Prohibition Plans
The 1938 Republican platform calls for a new amendment to allow state by state votes on federal liquor supervision, while retaining federal power to protect existing prohibition. It condemns Democratic leadership, supports Hoover relief plans, and pushes economy, gold standard retention, farm relief, tariffs, and strong penal laws. It stresses constitutional methods for amendments and argues referendum debates are not partisan.

He explained the objection as not age but a desire for a real wet ticket. Dawes in Washington declined to add beyond his previous statement. I urged him to stay focused on country needs during long senate debates.
