Emmetsburg Boy Admits Shooting Death of Station Attendant
Emmetsburg Iowa teen Robert Dreher 17 confessed to robbing and shooting Roy Brockman 55 at a Fairmont Minnesota service station on June 5. Dreher, a popular athlete, was from a large family and had recently graduated from Emmetsburg Catholic High School. He will be sent to juvenile authorities. The gun used was a .22 pistol found later in Lake Sisseton. about $170 was taken.

In Riceville a 13 year old girl Beneida Christanson was seriously injured when a 300 gallon gasoline barrel toppled from a tractor and pinned her. She suffered five broken ribs back injuries and gasoline irritation burns. She was taken to a Rochester hospital.

Step Father's Truck Kills Iowa Boy
A 10 year old boy, Dale Robert Willis, was killed instantly when he slipped while jumping for his stepfather's moving milk truck and was crushed by the wheels. The accident happened on the Arthur Goepfert farm near Bellevue, while Willis was helping on the pickup route.

A Muscatine man Ralph Althaus, 64, and his four year old grandson Scott Douglas Graham died when his pickup was hit broadside by a gravel truck driven by Arthur Bickhofer, 64, near Muscatine. Cindy Lou Graham, seven, survived unharmed as the vehicle rolled 120 feet. The crash occurred one mile north of the US 61 and Iowa 38 junction.

Independence Iowa UPI reports a 10 year old boy drowned in the Wapsipinicon River while trying to save his mother who had fallen in. Firefighters recovered his body about an hour later and the mother Jennifer was saved by rescuers who used blankets as a makeshift line.

Fort Dodge Youth Dies At Railroad Crossing
An 18 year old Fort Dodge youth, Richard Gilbert Anderson of U.S. Gypsum Co, was killed when his car hit an Illinois Central passenger train at an unguarded crossing three miles south of Fort Dodge. The train, led by 67 year old J B Eakin, ran late and traveled at about 75 mph. the impact broke air brakes, carrying the car about a mile before stopping. Residents report plans for crossing lights, while noting the crossing is plainly marked. Andersons are from Fort Dodge, now Spring Valley Minnesota.
