Town council sought a compulsory purchase for a local project until researchers uncovered the owner of the plot. The land reportedly belongs to the council, ending a year of attempts to identify the owner.
The parents of Capt Harold E. Fisher Jr report receiving a Chinese letter from Shanghai claiming their son is safe after being shot down over North Korea on April 7 during his 175th mission. The note mentions possible captivity in Manchuria and follows communist radio broadcasts. Fisher had 10 enemy planes confirmed, making him a double jet ace.
Forecasters expect no rain for the drought afflicted Central Plains as a cool front from St Louis to Oklahoma lowers temperatures by up to 15 degrees from week long highs above 100. The Weather Bureau predicts near normal midweek temperatures around 80 in the region.
At Panmunjom in Korea the Allied and Communist delegations reconvene for the first time in a week. Officers say no hint of progress or renewed difficulties. Reports say a truce could be signed by June 25, the war’s third anniversary.

Tice and Fred Twyman will address delegates as plans for continued programs are discussed.
Three former University of Iowa students Jean Edaburn 19 Creston Jerry Smith 17 OsKaloosa Richard Morrison 18 OsKaloosa began 60 day jail terms after earlier four month suspended shoplifting sentences. They were arrested May 29 in Cedar Rapids and expelled from the university.
The Washington city council voted to raise curbing and pave residence streets including West Main South Avenue B C North Fifth Street and South Fourth Street. Richards Construction to seal 27 previously torn blocks. A new Ford police car ordered from Mace Motor. Trees to be removed in front of City Hall for street light work. Green Engineering to perform sewer survey north of Eleventh Street and adjoining areas.
The United Presbyterian church youth group supports colleges through the SOC program. At a Presbytery rally in Keota the group was urged to raise the remaining funds. Washington aims to cover half the deficit if other churches provide the rest. On June 20–21 they wash cars at home for a minimum 1.50, calling Pat Stewart or the churchOffice or the manse to book.
Washington reformers clash over a plan to replace bathtubs with shower stalls in new homes. Builders back the idea as efficient, while a small protest group argues it harms women. Mrs. Edward B. Morris voices concern for beauty routines and privacy.

The Senate Foreign Relations Committee approved the St. Lawrence seaway bill to open the Great Lakes to ocean shipping. The vote was 13 to 2 with Sens. Walter George and J William Fulbright opposed. Chairman Alexander Wiley stated similar measures have stalled in Congress.
Dr M E Anderson of Clinton died at Jane Lamb Memorial hospital on Monday June 15 after about four months of illness. Services set for 2 pm Thursday at Snell funeral home with Methodist and Congregational clergy, plus American Legion and Rose Croix rites. He practiced medicine in Clinton 42 years after Northwestern University training. He was born November 18 1882 in Ainsworth and married Bertha Reinier in 1915. she died in 1950. Survivors include sister Mrs Murray Smylie brother Wiley Anderson a niece and a grand-nephew, all in Washington.

Sylvester Manders 25 of Dubuque died at a hospital after a Saturday night collision at the Ainsworth junction. He is the third auto fatality in Washington county this year, with ten last year. Manders, son of Mr and Mrs Joseph Manders, was part of a five soldier caravan from Fort Leonard Wood to Dubuque. Arthur Breitbach of Dubuque was seriously injured but improving.

In East Berlin 20,000 demonstrators protested a 10 percent production speed up on Communist projects. The politburo issued a government edict abandoning the plan within half an hour after the march, with observers calling the protest possibly Communist-inspired. Workers halted jobs and shouted anti-government slogans as police stood by.

They argued the will is unenforceable because who is Christian and which principles vary by belief. The court had previously upheld the bequest directing trustees to distribute to believers in fundamental Christian principles and the Bible who seek to promote them.
The Presbyterian church youth will stage a style show of wedding gowns from the past in the church basement at 7 30 p m on Friday June 19. Gowns will be modeled by Westminster Fellowship members and a silent auction follows to raise funds for Westminster Fellowship attendees to conference at Parsons College later this month. Donations are welcomed and pickups can be arranged. Refreshments will be served. The public is invited.
Liquor retailers in Washington accuse most military bases of illegal traffic in packaged liquor at wholesale prices. They allege the armed forces wink at a 1901 law banning sales on bases, allowing personnel and civilians to buy directly from distillers, bypassing retailers and state taxes. Officers handling distiller orders are said to neglect regular duties due to solicitations.
A New Mexico prison riot ended when Deputy Warden Ralph Tahash, aided by a state police .30-30 rifle, shot two ringleaders through a hospital window after prisoners held 13 guards hostage. The day-long disturbance involved about 100 convicts and culminated with police encirclement of the barricaded hospital area.
William Fitzgerald aged 45 of Baldwin was killed Sunday when his car struck a mud spot on a county road and crashed into a ditch.
Two rival legal teams ask Justice Douglas to grant a stay of execution for Julius and Ethel Rosenberg. They submit papers in Douglas's chambers after failing to obtain a full court stay, with the couple set to die at Sing Sing at 9 pm Thursday.
