Abbie Timmins, Miss Washington County, is preparing for the Miss Iowa Pageant in Davenport June 19 to 23 after winning Miss Washington County and a $600 scholarship plus a $50 congeniality prize. She spent her year promoting public appearances, studies at Fort Wayne Art Institute, and 4-H involvement.

Upw Emphasizes Medical Offering At Marion Avenue Program
Mrs. Jack Trotman presided at the Marion Avenue UPW program. The theme Dare to Heal highlighted the summer medical offering. A film Bearded Doctor on the Roof of the World was shown. Ruth Nolin wrote and Trotman read an introduction and a letter from Otis Rowe’s wife thanking for a land rover gift funded by the offering. Edna Sherriff dedicated the offering. Ave church events included devotions by Mrs. Arthur Witthoft and music by Ben Johnson with Millie Bordwell. John Wagner presided over the business meeting and sent incoming president Mrs. Louis Larsen to Synod school at Coe College Aug 4-10. Organist Jac li Knupp provided music and Wesley Bader did the art service.

Holmes hospitalized after garden fall in Iowa City
Mrs. Flossie Holmes lies at Mercy Hospital Iowa City with a broken right hip after slipping in her garden while picking straw berries Thursday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Hodges and family returned from a trip to Allentown Pennsylvania where they visited Mrs Hodges parents. Mr. and Mrs. Erwin Leppert and Mrs Hodges attended her high school graduation class fifteenth year reunion. They were joined by Mrs Irma Hodges of Burlington and later Mrs Ralph Bagger. Elmer Wulf and others attended the ordination of their son in law Robert Wilcox into the Methodist ministry at Ames services. Charlotte Wulf is Mrs Wilcox.
