Lorenz Handke age 22 and James Noack age 21 are jailed awaiting preliminary hearing after allegedly stealing 3500 from Clarence Kann’s farm home near Guttenberg. A safe containing 2000 in cash and 1500 in bonds and checks vanished. suspects were employed on the Kann farm and were captured in Guttenberg by Sheriff Carlsen and Deputy Mueller after the crime.

Waterloo to Get $700000 For New Class 4 Airport
Civil Aeronautics Administration in Washington notified Waterloo officials that $700000 is authorized for development of a Class 4 airport as part of the 1944 construction program. Two Teens Admit Companions Drowned in Mississippi River
In Dubuque two companions of 16 year old Harlan Holmes admitted to Sheriff Leo Eisbach that Holmes drowned when a canoe overturned late Sunday in the Mississippi River. They said they did not report the death that night and told his parents he would return later.

Youth Held for Violation of the Dyer Act
Paul E. Beattie 18 of Lincoln Park Michigan is jailed in Scott County on a $2500 bond after an arraignment before U S Commissioner W H Shorey. He was arrested on highway 6 four miles west of West Liberty Iowa for an alleged stolen car reported in Milwaukee Wisconsin. Washington County Board Approves Tax Assessments
The Washington County Board of Supervisors approved personal property valuations as returned by the assessors.
