Mrs. John Goodwin 71 of 511 South Sixth Avenue died Monday night June 13 1960 at home after years of illness. She born Jan 30 1889 in Rogers Arkansas daughter of Isaac and Mary Felty Creech. Survived by husband two sons Kenneth Wayland Clyde Prescott Ariz four daughters Florence Gargus Campbell Calif Evelyn Brooks Tucson Ariz Mary Lou Kauffman Washington Johnette Goodwin Mt. Pleasant 23 grandchildren eight great grandchildren plus brothers and sisters Albert J H Creech Bertha Morris Ida Baldwin Lennis Creech and Mrs John Beenblossom.
Don Johnson has become a regular member of the Washington city police force replacing part time officer Joe Simmering. Simmering reverts to part time duties while Johnson fills the vacancy on the full time regular force, according to Police Chief Mike Lee.

A rear wall on the second floor collapsed in Davenport causing heavy damage to a downtown appliance store and its adjacent warehouse. Workers had jacked up warehouse floors for support when a jack slipped and the floor sagged. No injuries were reported and loss estimates were unavailable.
A near two million Filipinos welcomed President Eisenhower in Manila as he began a two week Asia trip. He pledged that no petty differences would divide the Philippines and the United States, and said allies negotiate disputes peacefully. The arrival followed a 15 hour flight from Alaska with stops at Wake Island and Clark Air Base.
Iowa crop progress sped up with corn planting 90-95 percent complete statewide. Soybeans 80 percent planted and alfalfa and red clover cutting up from last year. Central regions show faster progress while eastern Iowa lags, aided by ample moisture supporting hay growth.
