High Tension Wire Breaks Here Today

Washington firemen and police were called to the water plant area when a high tension electrical wire broke along the street. The 110 000 volt line tangled with other wires and was kept off the ground. A minor tree fire started but caused no serious damage. Utilities officials cut power to the line to begin repairs.

Eight year old or older boys are urged to reserve spots at the Washington Y camp with the Ottumwa YMCA delegation. Camp Arrowhead trip runs July 12 to 20. Registration is 3 dollars with an additional 10 dollars due at camp start.

Strong Winds Cause Little Damage in Washington Area

A Friday night storm with strong winds toppled several tree limbs in Washington but caused little damage. Journal reports two felled trees, one at the Chance home south of Washington and another at the Don Sheetz farm where a tree fell on a turn in street.

Washington high school launched its summer band program. 55 high school students 11 junior high and 21 grad school pupils are enrolled.
