Spencer Iowa Mayor John Flindt pleaded guilty in Mayor's Court to speeding and fined himself six dollars plus costs. He said he was distracted and driving 37 mph in a 25 mph zone.
The Vodicka family near Washington shows a 1912 hand carved clock by Lad Vodicka. Using over 200 pieces of wood and a scroll saw, the Roman Cathedral shaped piece took more than two years of spare time work with works from New York and a willow tree sourced near Kalona.
Mayflower II ties up near Plymouth Rock completing a 54 day voyage from Plymouth England. The replica ship moored close to the rock as crowds gather for a re enactment of the Pilgrims arrival with Coast Guard escort and an escort flotilla.

The Royal American Shows carnival faces a $20000 damage suit filed by Mrs. Lovie Weekley and her daughter Susan of Davenport. They say negligence and faulty safety gear caused a fly-a-plane ride door to open, throwing Ruth Howard and Edward Eberle 30 feet into a crowd and injuring ten people, two of whom remained hospitalized.

He warned that modern Republicanism favors big business, raises costs, and hurts small business and homeowners while big firms gain tax concessions.

Des Moines TV newsman Jock Shelley told Methodist laymen at the Iowa-Des Moines Methodist Conference that modern lay Christians work to overcome petty differences among churchmen. He urged walking in the right path despite imperfections and noted approval when efforts aim toward Christ. Keota Washington FFA chapter officers and committee chairmen held a leadership training school at Lake Keomah from June 9 to 11. Seven boys from Washington and 16 from Keota attended with instructors Verne Knecht and Eldon Bergstrom. The program reviewed officer and committee responsibilities and planned the year ahead, with swimming fishing and boating enjoyed by the group.
The Justice Department seeks a summary judgment in federal court to block Bethlehem Steel Corp and Youngstown Sheet & Tube Co merger valued at 2.5 billion dollars. Filed before Judge Edward Weinfeld, the action follows a recent Supreme Court antitrust victory and could lead to an appeal if granted.
