Soils meetings in Lime Creek and Clay townships urged liming
Farmers attended soils meetings led by E. M. Brown of Ames on June 6 to test soil samples for acidity. Most samples were slightly acidic. lime is advised for sweet clover or alfalfa, less so for red clover. Some low yields were due to factors other than acidity, with suggestions to experiment using manure or commercial fertilizer. In Clay township a lime-treated pasture three years ago produced a strong stand now, illustrating lime's potential impact on legumes and subsequent crops.
