Navy to award West Indian campaign medals to officers and men

Washington June 13 In total about 800 officers and 6000 enlisted men will receive West Indian campaign medals. Most will honor Santiago Bay engagement with the fleet. Admiral Sehley and all fleet personnel get medals. Admiral Sampson’s family to receive his posthumous medal. Many will bear bars for Manzanillo Nipe Bay and other noted engagements. The meritorious service medal also to selected individuals like Blue Ward Hobson and Waithwright. The list is under board review.

Rival glucose firm to build huge Chicago plant

The Imperial Glucose and Starch company, led by Charles M. Warner of Syracuse, plans a $3,000,000 Chicago headquarters plant. It will be the world’s largest with a 25,000 bushels per day corn capacity, surpassing Peoria’s 20,000. Buildings cover 35 acres, plus railroad yards. Construction to take about a year, with chemists, mill experts, and traffic managers hired.

Head on collision leaves multiple dead and injured

A deadly wreck occurred near Chattinoona Tennessee as freight and fast mail trains on the Nashville Chattanooga and St Louis line collided on a curve. Three men died and about fifteen were injured, two fatally. Fireman Rankin and James Bernard perished, with Webb the express messenger also killed.
