Four hundred anti-Communist prisoners escaped their transfer confinement on Koje Island Korea escaping in groups of up to in front of Red execution squads. Some were captured and dragged back by Reds while guards intervened. General Haydon Boomer ordered force if prisoners resisted and tear gas used. About forty successfully got back through the gate or over the fence.

Estherville Boy Drowns While Fishing and Swimming
Estherville, January 14. Fourteen year old Donald Grees drowned in the Des Moines River here Wednesday while fishing with his brother. Authorities recovered the body about 150 yards downstream from the site where he disappeared. He was the son of Mr and Mrs Lawrence Grees of Estherville.
