Riverside family historia reports a wild canary found by 11 year old Jimmy Luckey. After capture the bird recovered in a cage and within 100 days sang at home. Mrs Merge Luckey notes the success in her Riverside Journal correspondence.
Virgil Wittmer, a Washington grocer, was named president of the Washington Janitor Chamber of Commerce at the annual officers election. He succeeds Don McClure. New officers include first vice president Fhnt Kneen and second vice president Poh Schwartz, secretary Harry Levy, and treasurer Karl Dalmeyer. Board members are Wilson Perdock Charles Morgan Bob Ross Russell Miller Keath Newton Jim Church Dici Ross and Kenneth Patterson.
Keokuk county residents will vote June 26 on a $200,000 bond for a county hospital in Sigourney. Over 850 signatures backed the measure, with 12 percent of residents over 65 and 23 percent aged 45 to 64. Dr J W Dulin urged support. about $200,000 more expected from donations.
T W Zillmer aged 76 died at 1 50 am Monday after a two year illness. Funeral services will be at 2 50 pm Wednesday at the Wellman Methodist Church with Rev J A Jones in charge. Burial in Champion Hill cemetery. He was born March 4 1875 in Washington county Iowa and was married Oct 10 1897. He served as justice of the peace in Green township and later in Wellman for 25 years. He belonged to the O O F lodge 55 years. He is survived by three children William J Zillmer Joy Marie Huston and Walter T Zillmer, one brother and four sisters, two grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Des Moines Dispatch reports Iowa selective service headquarters will draft ten physicians on June 26 to fill the state quota. The first priority consists of doctors deferred under the Army or Navy specialized training programs who have less than 90 days active service.
Washington experts say up to 385000 draft registrants aged 19 to 25 will lose their deferments under Truman's upcoming draft bill. The law ends wives-dependency deferments, lowers induction age and test pass marks, and sets physical standards near January 1945 levels. About 150000 men classified 4-F may lose their status. 18-year-olds face only temporary eligibility.

Charles Yordi 22 Riverside was given a suspended eight year sentence and fined 100 dollars after pleading guilty to manslaughter. District judge Harold Evans sent him to the men's reformatory at Anamosa on the recommendation of the county attorney's office. The charge stemmed from a highway accident a year earlier in which Irene Crow, a passenger on a truck driven by Reich, was killed.
