Nancy Vittetoe of rural Washington was named District Park Queen at Cardinal High School Eldon. She will represent the district in the Iowa State Fair state queen competition in August. Auditing could raise more revenue for Iowa
Revenue director Donald Briggs argues that every dollar spent on auditing Iowa’s revenue department could yield three dollars in tax revenue, noting diminishing returns beyond a point. A study by John Due shows Iowa audits only .6 percent of sales tax permit holders, far below Rhode Island’s 9.7 percent. Iowa has about 92 000 accounts to audit. in 1969 each auditor added about $29 400, with total annual gains near $2.5 million.
