Signatures today formalize a contract to light the high school and junior college athletic field for night football next season. Eight poles with two reflectors and six lamps per pole will illuminate a field that will pay for itself without using regular tax funds. fencing grading drainage and re-sodding are planned, with seating to be added later.
President Hoover will launch a Sunday night journey from Orange Virginia on a special train for a western speaking tour starting in Indianapolis after a stop in Washington. He will address editors in Indianapolis and attend events in Marion Columbus and Springfield before returning to Washington late Thursday.
Dan W. Turner addressed the Iowa State Federation of Labor urging shifting tax burden from property to income and calling for local expenditure cuts. He also pressed vocational training amid industry consolidation and mechanization as workers must retrain. Balloting on the 1982 convention site and federation executive board nominees followed.

Two American deputy sheriffs await trial on murder charges as a funeral train bearing Emilio Cortes Rubio and Manuel Garcia Gomez departs Ardmore Oklahoma for Mexico. The victims were shot during a car check en route from American schools, with the funeral train bound for Laredo Texas and Mexico City assisting escorts and relatives involved.
Rome reports a practical settlement of the Vatican and Italian government dispute with resignations anticipated. Cardinal Pacelli may resign as secretary of state, while several other top officials are expected to be removed or promoted following the settlement.
A report states that despite questions about the union, the marriage between a woman and William Guthrie, contracted nearly seven years ago, remains legally valid and recognized.
Fourteen county 4 H club girls elected officers at a rally in the city hall. Lenore Thomann was president Grace Thompson vice president Ruth Foster secretary treasurer and Margaret Stewart historian. Clubs presented stunts and music memory results were announced. Plans for a health contest were discussed and a life saving demonstration by Dr Eastwood and his son was featured. Dinner followed.
The public is invited to the Odd Fellows and Rebekahs Memorial services on Sunday June 14. The Rebekahs will conduct the services at the I O O F hall at two o clock then members will go to Elm Grove and Woodlawn cemeteries to decorate graves of deceased members. Members are asked to bring flowers.
Rooster Day event reports 7,224 pounds of roosters sold in a single day. Vendors note high turnout and strong demand for birds, with buyers flocking to the market for poultry selections and festive activities.
About 2000 guesses were made in Rooster Day contests with total sales of 580164 dollars. Heaviest rooster weighed 11 pounds raised by Mrs. R S Cunningham and the smallest roosters weighed two pounds each from H J Hayes.
Washingtons fourth annual Rooster day drew crowds as more than 7 000 pounds of roosters were marketed close to last years record. Roosters were weighed and paid at a central truck on the square with many brought from area farms. Nearly 1200 birds were sold amid steady arrivals as shipments headed to Chicago for sale.
Chairman Fess of the Republican National Committee led a conference of 300 young Republicans in Washington on June 11 predicting President Hoover would be unanimously renominated and reelected in 1932. Robert H Lucas noted representation from every state.

Elected officers include Thomas B Throckmorton Des Moines senior warden A J Walsmith Oskaloosa junior warden Charles C Parmeter Clear Lake treasurer Charles Hunt Cedar Rapids secretary and Charles C Clark Burlington custodian chair. Sioux City chosen for 1932 convention. Mrs William Wooley and daughter Wilma plus Gwendolyn Rhea Crawfordsville were in Washington yesterday.
Washington takes on Muscatine in a Sunday tennis clash at Muscatine. The lineup features six singles matches and three doubles matches.
Beverly Hills reports Mr. Mellon and Mr. Stimpson will travel to London for a conference. They state they will not cut debt payments and prefer direct letters. A Geneva delegation on dope is planned. They argue output limits and external manufacturers will shape the conference outcome.
John T. Lucas of Marshalltown was elected Iowa commander of the Grand Army of the Republic as the state gathers for its annual convention. The meeting named J. W. Stout, Charles Dunmore, and Frank Quaid to top state posts while endorsing a national vise commander candidate. Attendance reached 141 as the 1932 encampment settles in Council Bluffs with 884 paid members remaining in the state group.
A small monoplane from Chicago crashed near Walbridge Ohio killing Capt. C F Rubens and Capt. M M Rubner both Illinois National Guard officers who piloted the craft for Thomas F White contractor. The third passenger owner of the plane died later at a local hospital and the pilot Bubner died instantly. White suffered only minor injuries.
Mr and Mrs P G Widmer return from a brief vacation at Okee Wisconsin. They brought along Mr and Mrs Will Eichelberger who had been visiting their daughter at Okee.
Lima authorities arrested 55 alleged plotters at dawn as the Junta froze civil guarantees and imposed exceptional repression nationwide. The move aims to restore electoral normality and curb revolts while policing plots in Lima and Callao. some 22 were captured at Callao rendezvous and 33 at Lima.
Washington country club reports major upgrades this year with a new irrigation system. A large cistern and pump supply water via pipes to nine greens, using the creek on the grounds. Tennis courts, once unused, are now in excellent shape and popular among club youth.
An overnight break in at the Baxter coal yard office was discovered this morning. Entry was gained by breaking a glass door with a hammer and papers and items were scattered. Only a small amount of money was taken.
Chinese minister to the United States Chao Chu Wu resigned and will visit the White House at 11 45 A M to bid farewell to President Hoover. An official statement will follow from the legation in Nanking.
