Iowa Executive Council approves broad state pay raises
The Iowa Executive Council approved a complex merit raise plan effective July 1 to boost pay for most state employees. About 75 to 80 percent of the 15,700 employees will be eligible, with increases of 4 to 5 percent, funded from the last legislative session. Eligible workers include those earning under 10,000 with at least three months without a raise, and those earning 10,000 or more with six months without a raise. Government leaders hope the raises help retain staff amid private-sector gains and tax changes. Governor Harold E. Hughes was not present at the meeting.
