Brisbane greeted Capt Charles Kingsford-Smith and crew as the Southern Cross landed at 10 15 a m after the longest sea crossing yet. The Fiji to Australia flight covered 1795 miles in 21 hours 20 minutes. The four men, including navigator C T Ulm and radio operator James Warner, were carried from the aircraft by cheering crowds.

Burglars Enter Dougherty Store in Nighttime Theft
Burglars broke into the Dougherty Bros clothing store on the west side of the square using a jimmy. They carried off three or four suits, two overcoats, two or three hats, a suitcase, hose, ties, other small items, and about $12 in change from the cash register. Entry was via the front door. they left by the rear door unlocked from inside. Discovered at 3 a.m. by night watchman W. M. Bailey, who alerted Ralph Dougherty and police. burglars had fled. Some items were small sizes. more valuable pieces left behind. Holmes flat on East Washington Street was also entered between midnight and 1 a.m. Windows were open and lights on, but nothing appeared taken.
