Dr. John Lemmon of Washington has been named to a state Iowa Optometric Association committee to study school vision exams and classroom lighting and color surveys. The appointment was announced June 5 by Dr. George H. Warkentine of Cedar Rapids, association president, after a two day executive committee meeting in Des Moines. Other members include Dr. B. W. Scott of Independence chairing, Dr. Dwight E. Hoox of Des Moines, Dr. C. E. Nichols of Clarinda, and Dr. John H. Robinson of Sheldon.

Illinois Gangster Shot and Killed on His Farm Residence
Roy Shelton a 60 year old member of the southern Illinois gangster clan was shot and killed at his Pond Creek bottom farm in Fairfield Illinois. The sheriff Elmer Brown reported the incident after Mrs Earl Shelton called at 8 am CST. Sheriff Brown investigated with an ambulance summoned to the scene. Roy was brother to Big Earl Carl and Bernie Shelton known for prohibition era bank robberies bootlegging and gambling activity in the region.

Teens Alter Birth Dates on Licenses to Buy Beer
DES MOINES Iowa safety officials report an increasing number of teenagers defacing or altering birth dates on drivers licenses to obtain beer. The department suspended one offender and urged tavern operators to refuse service to altered licenses. Highway Patrol reports say a Des Moines individual offers to alter licenses for 50 cents. One boy claimed he changed his birth date to impress a girl by appearing 21.
