Adoption patterns rise and fall in Iowa in 1970
Betsy, a three year old with cerebral palsy, illustrates changing adoptions as demand shifts from Gerber babies to needy children. Iowa data show 3,089 decrees in 1970, then declines to 2,986 in 1971 and 2,809 in 1972. Related adoptions rise slightly while non related fall, and agencies focus on minority and special needs children amid broader social changes.

Towa House Approves 1.8 Million For Day Care Programs
The Towa House on a 7 11 vote approved 1.8 million dollars to sustain two state programs facing potential cutbacks from federal reductions. The bill allocates 1.2 million for the Governor's Summer Youth Opportunity Program and 579 thousand for day care during the 1973 75 biennium. Senate action mirrored this approach but the House added a limit on gubernatorial spending to bail out programs, sending the measure back for Senate review.
