Sudden death after heart attack shocks Ames family
Mrs. Leslie O'Brien, 37, died during surgery at Ames city hospital after a heart attack on the operating table. Her newborn son survived delivery by cesarean section in critical condition. Police Chief W. J. Cure, 61, father of the deceased, had a severe heart attack upon hearing the news, later reported better with oxygen. Neighbor Roger Williams, at the Cure home, suffered a minor heart attack while offering condolences.

Production in Ship Yards Near Normal in San Francisco Bay
Production in San Francisco bay ship yards neared normal today for the first time since the May 10 strike by AFL machinists. Between 2,800 and 3,000 AFL metal trades unionists marched past silent picket lines into Bethlehem steel yards where ships valued at 300 million dollars for navy and merchant use are under construction. Evanston June 4 The National W C T U reports Americans drank 7,017,442 more gallons of alcohol and spent 6,244,903 more than in the first quarter of 1940. The three month total reached 260,105,194 gallons across domestic and imported spirits beer and wine with a tab of 663,966,012 dollars. Domestic whisky fell slightly while beer and wine rose significantly.

Mrs C M Small of Wellman Dies at 22
Mrs C M Small of Wellman died at Mercy hospital in Cedar Rapids yesterday evening after a period of ill health. Born Bessie Bernice Curl on February 16 1909 near Wellman she was a Wellman High School graduate of 1925 and wed Co M Small on January 18 19. Her husband and son Marlyn aged 13 survive along with three brothers Everett and Irvin of Iowa City and Clifford of Wellman and a sister Myrtle Helmer in Olympia Washington. Funeral plans are pending word from the sister in Olympia.
