John Erskine Dies at 71 From Heart Attack in New York
Author and educator John Erskine of New York City died at his Park Avenue home from a heart attack at 71. He had suffered high blood pressure after a street collapse two years earlier, and his wife Helen Worden Erskine was at his side. Born October 5, 1879, in New York, he taught at Amherst and Columbia and sparked fame with The Private Life of Helen of Troy in 1925. He authored more than 34 books across fiction and nonfiction.
