Fred Neuhart 81 Dies This Morning
Fred Neuhart 81 died this morning June 1 1961 at Washington County Hospital after six months ill health. He lived seven miles southwest of Washington and will be buried in Elm Grove Cemetery after a Saturday funeral at 2 pm in Jones Funeral Home. He was born Sept 13 1879 near Keota and married Emma Regina Bereiter April 22 1902. survivors include son Harl en of Washington and several grandchildren plus siblings. He belonged to the Odd Fellows Lodge and was a retired farmer.

Perry Jordan ends a 35 year run as Washington water works superintendent resigning effective June 1 after serving since 1926. He recalls major system changes from 175000 to over 1.1 million gallons daily and notes four deep wells now supply the city. Jordan began in 1908 in Findlay Illinois and worked in Corydon Iowa before moving to Washington. He plans fishing and rest after a long career with colleagues he praises.

Richard Thomas Dies at Muscatine Hospital
Richard Thomas age 72 died Wednesday afternoon at Muscatine General Hospital where he had been a patient for a week. Funeral services set for Friday at 2 PM at Columbus Junction United Presbyterian Church with burial in Cambrian Cemetery. He was born January 20, 1889 near Wyman, married Leah Evans in 1911, lived near Cotter and Letts before settling in Columbus Junction where he worked in insurance. Survivors include his widow, one son Robert, a daughter Bertha Bonnichsen, four grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and a brother Edd of Cotter.

A 14 year old farm boy Dennis Sheffert drowned in the Turkey River behind his home two miles west of GarnaVille after his fishing companions chose to swim. James Eilers 17 attempted a rescue but failed. Firemen from Guttenberg Garnaville Garber and Elkader recovered the body before sundown. He is survived by his parents two sisters and a brother.

Liquor Stores Cut Hours Across Iowa Starting July 1
Des Moines reports that 125 state liquor stores will reduce hours from one to three daily due to an Iowa legislature approved budget cut. C. J.
