Forty Yars in Fairfield Family Remembers Early Days
Fifty two years ago on April 14 we stayed our first night in Fairfield in the same house where we now live. The family then included mother and eight children eight of whom are sons and daughters, with the father having died in January 1857. We were twelve years old. The brothers served in the army. one was killed by accident, another killed in battle, another wounded and died from wounds, and the editor survives after a hard battle for the flag. The mother and two eldest girls have passed on, two sisters remain.
