Charles Thomas Furst 34, an insurance salesman and student pilot from Cedar Rapids, died when a rented two seater crashed in a soy bean field two miles south of Iowa City. The crash occurred around 3 45 p m after a local hop chase spirals then dived into the field. Furst's mother was notified in Florida.

Father Son Die In One Car Crash Near Eldon
A father Clyde Gail McClure 37 and his son Clyde Steven 15 were killed when their car ran off a rural road east of Eldon and plunged into the Des Moines River. The mother Leanna 86 escaped with minor injuries. Rescuers recovered the bodies from the submerged vehicle and the victims were taken to Ottumwa hospital. It was unclear whether drowning or injuries caused the deaths.

A five year old girl, directed by her mother, fed her father fatal doses of poisoned vitamin pills laced with strychnine.
