They visited San Diego Tijuana Albuquerque Flagstaff Grand Canyon and Denver on the return voyage. In Denver they saw cousins Paul and Helen Knotek. Carla Coutner enjoys a two week Washington vacation from nursing training at Iowa Lutheran. Several residents returned to Washington after a week in the Ozarks.

Six Iowans Die in Weekend Mishaps Across River and Roads
Six people died in Iowa over the weekend including four drownings in the Mississippi. Hazel Dickson and Martha Jean Ness both of Rattan Iowa drowned when their motorboat swamped near Fort Madison. Military Funeral for Major Robert F Conner Held
Military rites for Major Robert F Conner son of Mrs te Conner of Washington occurred at Wilmington National Cemetery on July 11. A posthumous Army Air Force commission was noted after he was killed in Korea on July 28. Born in Washington July 11 1924 he served as a fighter pilot in the South Pacific and Okinawa during World War II and returned to Japan in 1948 before assignment to a jet unit. Survivors include his parents his wife and daughter. The Army obituary praised his courage saving trapped Americans and leading others to safety.
