Des Moines Governor George A. Wilson will address the sixth annual statewide celebration of the Scandinavian American society in Des Moines next Sunday.
Marion Conrey is granted a divorce from Thelma Conrey who serves a 10 year embezzlement sentence at Rockwell City women's reformatory. Conrey receives custody of their two year old son.
Dr Max Durfee of the University of Michigan health service for three years was named health service director of Iowa State Teachers College Cedar Falls He succeeds Dr Frank Mead who retires September 1 after twenty years in college service and twenty six more in private practice
In Knoxville Judge W S Cooper parolees John Lyman Clark and Donald Wilson are sent to relatives after a year old series of robberies and break ins. Clark goes to father J J Clark Wilson to grandfather J A Wilson Harvey. Accomplice Raymond Scott received five years at Anamosa reform school.
A Council Bluffs delegation appeared before the state conservation commission asking for between five thousand and six thousand dollars to install shower and toilet facilities at the Lake Manawa Bathhouse. Kep Hemmag Waller accompanied the group.
Marion McGinnis, 26, a farmer southwest of Stuart, lost a leg in a combine and later died at Lutheran hospital from the injuries.
A group of eight to fourteen year olds from United Charities of Chicago are spending two weeks in Manchester with Mrs. Ed Keith of Delhi arranging temporary homes for the youngsters with local residents.
Glenwood state institution for the feeble minded reports M. A. Kraschel brother of former Governor Kraschel has resigned his post as head farmer due to very poor health. Officials state the move is not political and is based on health.
Fairfield marks its centennial as 150 National Guard soldiers receive permission to grow beards though army by-laws normally ban facial hair. Adj Gen Charles Grahl authorized the exception to avoid Fairfield’s guardsmen appearing as the sole clean shaven men.
Jacob Foster, 55, of Lone Tree, Iowa, retraced an 80 year old ox drawn wagon route from Chicago to Iowa City. He traveled by United Air Lines plane in 1 hour 47 minutes, a trip that replaced the six week journey. It was his first airplane ride.
Knoxville Judge W. Coper refuses reduction of bonds for Lee Coleman and his wife Oral Coleman in the murder case of Bert Conrey. Bonds stay at 20 000. Mrs Coleman was on bond since May sentence. Coleman held at Fort Madison penitentiary until brought back to jail last week.
A chaotic wartime notice lists Centennial Committee members and event roles for a local parade and public displays. Names include G A Goddard, Ray Whitehead, Ed Muck, James Casey, and others handling publicity, floats, publicity, and pageant grounds.
Central park fountain project adds another $85 to the fund, boosting total contributions to over $1,300. Park board work includes replacing the old walk with a new concrete path starting Monday and benches carved from log slabs for Centennial visitors, as donations from individuals and groups continue.
The Centennial commission schedules a Thursday morning parade at ten o clock with many Tuesday parade units, livestock, and county show features. The U S embassy said 16 Japanese planes bombed the girls' school at Wu chow and burned the Southern Baptist Stout Memorial hospital killing 40 and injuring 330 in a July 26 raid on a densely populated area. Over 100 bombs dropped.
The American Legion sponsors a pre Centennial dance after the underpass dedication on North Second Avenue. A Whisker club parade at 7:30 leads to an 8:00 ceremony led by Councilman W. B. Dupuis, with profits benefiting Legion civic projects including a Memorial Fountsia fund gift.
George Whetatine was arraigned in Iowa City on a desertion of family charge. He pleaded not guilty and was ordered held to the grand jury at the September term. Bonds were set at $20.

A journal photographer witnessed four masked bandits on horseback rob three Washington shops. They looted a grocery, a tavern, and another store before escaping south west. All money was recovered and no identities are confirmed though suspects are named with nicknames.
Seven people were killed and four injured in two auto crashes on slick roads near Fremont Ohio. A three-car truck collision three miles east of town killed five and a woman. A separate crash two miles north of town burned two people to death when their car side-swiped a truck.
London reports 55000 Territorial Army reservists to camp as part of unprecedented preparedness during world war anniversary week. 12000 naval volunteers called to duty to man reserve fleet ships ahead of a summer emergency. August air raid blackout tests affect Kineland nights. King George to review reserve fleet August 9 before fleet joins home fleet for combined maneuvers.
The first entry for the pet parade is Robert Custer with a bulldog in the pet division. Entries span horses dogs and cats with plans for historical and original idea divisions. Parade decorates bicycles and coaster wagons with clever costumes as it forms at the Yo M A. station before starting.
Rev Henry J Corcoran of St James church arranged a 6 o'clock Sunday mass at the Catholic church for church members planning to ride the 7 o'clock Whisker club train to Chicago. The change allows those travelers to attend before departure.
Parade committee chairman Lester Orr announces floats are invited for the Centennial parade expected to draw 20 000 spectators. J W Foster at Curran company will design and supervise float building with Mr Baslin aiding. materials and festooning available, costs limited to express charges.
