Talent show draws very big crowd at county fair
The Washington County 4 H and FFA Fair entered day three amid a half inch of rain that turned patches to mud. Highlights included Robby Johnson's grand champion pen of three pigs and Joe Hahn's grand champion market lamb with Vic Brenneman as reserve. Brenneman also led the Keota FFA grand champion pen of three market lambs, while Craig McCoy earned reserve in that category. Jim Bringman won $100 for the Festival of Talent.

Iowa City man sues state over 17 years wrongful imprisonment
Ernest J. Triplett, 71, filed a 1 million dollar lawsuit in Johnson County District Court alleging violation of constitutional rights, loss of freedom, income and dignity, and pain from 17 years in prison for an 1954 8 year old slaying later exonerated by drug induced confession. He seeks 500000 for compensatory damages and 500000 for punitive damages. A separate 1 million suit remains pending in federal court from October 1975 against several individuals linked to his arrest and conviction in the Jimmy Bremmer case.

Fund drive set in Wellman for ambulance service
