Largest Iowa City drug raid nets 65000 speed tablets

State narcotics agents and Iowa City police seized 65 000 speed tablets in what officials call the largest drug raid in Iowa history. Three men were arrested, including University of Iowa students Stephen Renk and John Rawlings and Roger Spaulding of Jacksonville Illinois. The case could bring up to five years in prison or a $1 000 fine.

Guard unit earns superior rating at Hawkeye Brigade review

A Washington National Guard unit the 134th Medical Company received the Superior Unit Award for the 1970 71 training year during the Hawkeye Brigade parade at Camp Ripley Iowa National Guard summer training The ceremony honored six field units including the 186th MP Company Des Moines 1133rd Transportation Company Mason City and engineering units from Burlington Ottumwa and Mount Pleasant with visiting dignitaries watching the review

Lost boy Kevin Dye found alive on Casper Mountain

Searchers found 9 year old Kevin Dye after 11 days missing on Casper Mountain. He was scratched and dazed but alive and taken by lifter to Wyoba Baptist Church camp for treatment. He wore a blue polo shirt shorts and tennis shoes and had been spotted several times before finally being located.

Governor Ray urges DPI to reconsider Amish education ruling

Gov. Robert D. Ray said he will urge the state Board of Public Instruction to reconsider its decision forcing Amish children in Iowa to have certified instruction rather than religious education. Two Men Jailed for Break-In in Ainsworth Store Case

Steve Griffin and Thomas Morrison, both of Washington, are jailed in Washington County on breaking and entering charges. Bond set at 9000 dollars each. Officers say the pair were linked to the Ainsworth Store theft of about 400 dollars in food and admitted to several other break-ins in the area recently.

Monday program at the Washington County Fair features Highland High School band from 7 to 7 30 on the fairgrounds stage.
