New Challenge in Brookhart Steck Iowa Senate recount
The Associated Press reports a new challenge in the Brookhart Steck Iowa Senate recount. Steck supporters will challenge ballots where the straight Republican ticket circle is marked but a square opposite Brookhart’s name is also marked, arguing the straight vote is nullified. Brookhart partisans say straight party votes must count regardless of inner-square marks, allowing split votes only when Steck is marked in the Democratic column. About fifty Brookhart ballots, from Cedar and Cerro Gordo counties, were set aside due to the new challenge.
