Two Iowa Farm Owner Slain as Car Is Stolen
Two young suspects linked to the slaying of Wendell Jones, 56, Pulaski farmer, were captured near Meyer north of Quincy after a nationwide manhunt. Jones was robbed of 81 dollars, shot twice, and his car abandoned north of Canton while the getaway pair fled across the Mississippi River.

Columbus City Man Held at Muscatine
Harold Skipton of Columbus City Iowa was arrested after a high speed chase 10 miles from Muscatine. Police charged him with leaving the scene of an accident speeding and reckless driving after a tire was punctured and a squad car was nearly forced off the road. A woman driver was forced off the road during the chase. names of others not released.

Barn and corn crib burn on Urban Hargrafen farm near Columbus Junction
Flames destroyed a barn and a corn crib on the Urban Hargrafen farm one mile west of Columbus Junction before 6 a.m. Firemen could not save the structures though nearby buildings were saved. The barn and its contents and 700 bushels of corn in the crib were lost. Cause undetermined and loss partly insured.

Simon Miller 23 of Kalona drowned Friday in Lake Ostrova Greece while swimming with four other boys during Mennonite church mission work. He served with Mennonite Foreign Missions, born January 1, 1931, survived by his parents Dennis and (unnamed) Miller and eight sisters.
