The Roosevelt administration reports steady progress in the unemployment relief drive with pledges from thousands of employers to sign voluntary minimum wage agreements while the Fed notes rising industrial output. Bil Shannon defeated Walt Wells in a gruelling 19 hole match to win the club championship. Both youngest players in the tourney, they were even much of the time with Wells rallying late to force an extra hole. Shannon led 2 up with four holes to play but Wells halved the next two and sank a long putt on the decisive hole.

Washington school district trims budget for next year

The Washington school district announces a new operating budget of 55 296 dollars, down from 70 000 last year and 96 000 the year before. The 32 percent cut since 1930 stems from Beatty Bennett tax relief and salary reductions from 20 down to five percent, plus the elimination of five teaching positions. Hunger march parade dispersed by Chicago police

Chicago police halted a hunger march on Michigan Avenue as about 60 protesters were dispersed. Forty-one men and one woman were arrested after a night fight disrupted traffic across several blocks.

Riverside Pioneer Jacob Frank Dies at 79

Jacob Frank of Riverside dies at 4 20 PM on Tuesday after a brief illness. Born 1854 in Iowa, he arrived as a boy from Iowa and settled on a Riverside area farm over sixty five years ago. He married Louise Kret in 1879. she died in 1918. Survived by six children, nineteen grandchildren, four great grandchildren, a brother John Frank of Kalona. Washington barbers seek longer hours under relief act

At a barbers meeting in Washington the trade asks to work 61 hours a week under the relief act. Ted Dalton ordered a communication to the barbers division or master barbers. proposed schedules run from 6am to 10pm, with Saturday extension. A Des Moines meeting July 1 will set a code or action. Barbers plan to recruit in other towns. prices to rise from 25 to 35 cents. a fatal kerosene accident is noted.

To Secure a Lake in Washington County

A proposed state park in Washington County would include a fifty to seventy acre lake on a designated tract with permanent state involvement.
